“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” Proverbs 16:3 (NIV).
Are you a goal-setter, or do you let things happen as they may? What drives you in your personal and spiritual life? To many, setting goals in areas of their life is very important, and it motivates the things they do daily. For others, they may take life as it comes and are not set in a driven routine. No matter how you approach it, God's goals and plans for your life will leave you the most successful and fulfilled.
I’m not much of a goal-setter. I have mastered the art of procrastination and am very good at making things work as they come along. I would love to say I set big life goals and am driven to accomplish them daily. I admire those who are successful at this task, BUT…that is not me. The goals I am most successful in fulfilling are daily goals. Although my intentions are good, life, kids, work, and everything in between keep me from looking or planning too far ahead. But God wants to be a part of the BIG and LITTLE things of my life.
No matter how you approach the tasks of your life, you can be assured that when God is in it, He is working whatever you are doing towards good. Our whole purpose can change when our minds are set on an eternal perspective. While setting big goals, we can ask God to give us clarity and vision through His wisdom, as well as endurance and encouragement to follow through. When we tackle the smaller goals that consume our lives, we have the privilege of consulting Him through prayer and scripture daily. This transforms our plans into His, where they become more purposeful and grow our Godly character.
As the new year approaches and you set out to make long-term and short-term goals for your life, will you pray about what God has for you in each of those? Seek Him and His word, and your plans will be well established.
