Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Sharon Gomez shares how to find freedom from anxious thoughts and the what-ifs of life.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:28-29, NIV).
I had been wrestling with an impactful career decision for over a month. My thoughts were consumed by prayer, pros and cons lists, and the differing opinions of the people I trusted.
Surely, God would show me the path He laid for me as I wholeheartedly believed in His truths and promises. Yet even knowing that God is always with me didn't help me know which decision to make practically.
For the last few years, I’ve begged God for a way out of a stressful job. When a new job offer came along, I jumped on it. But as I waited for the pre-hiring requirements to be completed, new circumstances arose in my current job that suddenly gave me pause.
God had answered my prayers, but I didn't expect the decision to come with so many pros and cons. The weight of indecisiveness led to moments of depression and even physical symptoms.
Today's key verse isn't typically related to freedom, but I needed freedom from my anxious thoughts. I was weary and burdened by the "what-ifs" swirling around in my mind, and my soul needed rest.
Once I stopped trying to control the narrative of my decision, my mind cleared, and my body relaxed. I asked God to give me ‘obvious’ guidance. I asked for doors to either be slammed shut or flung wide open.
I asked, and God answered. A door was flung open, and my choice became clear. I was finally free from the worries, whys, and what-ifs of a difficult decision.
I found freedom when I finally surrendered my weary soul to Jesus. I was freed from anxiety, and I was able to make a sound decision based on the information God had revealed to me.
Why not spend time prayerfully considering the worries, whys, or what-ifs you need freedom from?
