Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Tyla Yauk is the author of today’s devotion and our scripture is from Matthew 27:51, in the ESV translation: “And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split” Matthew 27:51 (ESV).
I always thought I knew how to love people. I volunteered my time, offered smiles and hugs, said kind words, and was there when needed. I demonstrated my love through actions but wasn’t really loving people in an authentic way. I didn’t realize what love was until I hit my lowest point and needed love more than anything. Let me share with you what I found during a most difficult season.
You cannot truly love people without a loving relationship with the Father—one in which there is no veil. In the referenced scripture, the veil in the temple was magnificent. A huge woven tapestry that separated men from the Holy of Holies where God resided. Men could only access God through a high priest once a year. When Jesus died, the veil that separated us from God because of sin was torn in two, and a brand-new relationship was established between man and God.
I don’t think I considered how big of a deal that is. What an amazing visual! Now, nothing is standing between us and God. As His children, we can come face-to-face in an intimate relationship with Him and share His love with others.
There are times when I stop seeing myself as God’s child, and my world falls apart. I think about the image of the torn veil, lean into the scripture, and rise out of the muck. Then, God’s floodgates of love pour over me, and I can more genuinely love people.
Do you need help receiving and offering love to others? How does picturing the torn veil in the temple help your relationship with God?
