Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Sharon Gomez reminds us today that all we do can bring glory to God.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV).

I transferred to a different job last year, which required me to be there an hour later than I was used to. I was excited about having more time for morning devotion and hoped to fit in a chore or two.

My intentions were good, but my actions began to reflect my priorities. Instead of increasing my devotion time, it became a race to see how many chores I could get done before leaving for work.

I know time with Jesus is a precious priority, so why is it so easy to fill my time with chores, social obligations, and family commitments instead of spending time with the One who sustains me?

In today’s scripture, the apostle Paul reminds us that whatever we do, we do it all for the glory of God. This reminds us to fulfill our obligations in a way that is pleasing to God and to invite Jesus to walk alongside us.

When I am overwhelmed, I stop, breathe, and pray. Instead of obsessing about my to-do list, I share each item with Him. I worship while I drive, repent as I wash the dishes, give God gratitude as I sweep the floor, and pray for others as I put away the laundry.

Although I have learned to bring Jesus into my schedule, my attention still wavers. I switched my devotion time to evenings on my patio, but I still fight the urge to pull weeds or water the plants!

We all have earthly obligations, including running errands, housework, yard work, shuffling children, or our 8-to-5 jobs. Let’s invite Jesus to be present with us and remind ourselves that the things that make up our busy lives are indeed His blessings.

Reflect on what today’s message means to you and your life. Prayerfully consider how you can bring glory to God in your busyness.
