Freely Speaking Audio Devotions

Feb 3, 2025    Kate Dreston

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today's devotion was written by Kate Dreston.

Let’s begin with today’s scripture from Galatians Chapter 6, verse 10.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10 NKJV).

I groaned when I saw the digital screen on my thermometer, which registered a fever for the seventh consecutive day. I had been dealing with headaches, sinus congestion, and a cough, which made my whole body ache. This was my first battle with Covid, and I was miserable.

My friend Jane called me often to see how I was feeling and would ask if there was any way she could help. I asked if she could bring cough drops as I was running low. The next day, she left a package on my porch. When I opened it, I found a note explaining she had bought five different flavors, hoping I would like one.

Sitting next to the box was a bouquet of beautiful roses she picked up to "lift my spirits." Jane is a sincere and generous friend who shows her Christian love to others through acts of kindness.

Today's verse from Galatians encourages us to do good to all people, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ. Psalm 11:25 says, "The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself." This verse teaches us that we will be blessed in return when we bless others through kind deeds.

Being considerate to others can have many benefits. It can help grow our friendships, reflect Christ's love, and encourage a disheartened soul. Your compassion and generosity can make a world of difference to someone.

I encourage you to find ways to serve your brothers and sisters in Christ. Here are some ideas:

Take food to a sick friend

Volunteer at your church

Send an encouraging text saying you are praying for them

Call someone with the sole purpose of asking how they are doing

Compliment someone

Invite someone to a meal

Let's not miss an opportunity today to shine the light of Jesus in this dark world.
