Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Susan Hales encourages us to rely on Christ’s power and strength.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30 NIV).
Hearing a baby cry isn’t something I enjoy. I have no clue what they need or how to stop them from crying. (I guess it’s obvious I have never had children.)
Babies are weak, helpless, and dependent on their mothers for absolutely everything. They need physical care, and a loving relationship is critical for their emotional and social development.
At Christmas, we focus on the birth of the baby Jesus. But did you ever wonder why God sent Jesus to earth as a baby instead of a fully grown man?
By sending His beloved Son to earth as a baby, God showed us how dependent Jesus was on His earthly parents and Heavenly Father. In the same way, we must rely on Our Heavenly Father for all our needs.
The apostle Paul knew what it was like to depend on God’s strength. He begged God to remove the handicap that was given to him, which he referred to as "a thorn in the flesh."
Jesus told Paul, “…my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9b NIV). Paul realized that Christ's strength was more than sufficient to overcome his weaknesses.
He wrote, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV).
The more we recognize our weaknesses, the stronger Christ's power and strength become in us.
As a baby depends on others, let’s rely on Christ’s power and strength instead of our own to accomplish God’s will and bring Him glory.
