Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Apr 10, 2024    Sarah Goff

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts

and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Sarah Goff. Our scripture reading is from Luke 6:27-28 NIV.

“But to you who are listening, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you” (Luke 6: 27-28 NIV).

Have you ever been hurt by difficult relationships where someone has said or done something that caused you pain? Have you tried to use the Lord's words to handle that hurt during those situations? Jesus is the perfect example we need to follow. Do you remember the quote, "What would Jesus do?"

I have always loved people wholeheartedly; that's why it was devastating when my closest friends, whom I trusted, betrayed me. Their actions left me heartbroken, struggling to understand why they mistreated me. This was when I realized that not everyone would love me or stay in my life forever. I learned that some relationships are only meant to be temporary, and that is okay. After many prayers and tears, I saw God's hand in my life, guiding me toward the best path forward. If God had wanted them in my life, they would still

be there.

I still think about my old friends and will always have love for them. This love is because of my faith in Christ. I pray they accept Christ into their hearts and know His love and ways. God wants us to love in challenging relationships, even if we don’t receive love in return.

It's important to remember that not everyone will love us, but God will always love us and want what's best for us. His divine words show us how to respond during trying times: to love those who hurt us, to be kind to people who hate us, and to pray for those who mistreat us. This is the ultimate act of love and compassion.

Jesus died as the ultimate sacrifice for imperfect people. He showed love despite betrayal. How has His life taught you to handle hurtful situations?
