Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Tyla Yauk.
My yoke is easy, and my burden is light; (Matthew 11:30 NIV).
Living according to God's plan gives us the ultimate freedom. Amidst the busyness of work and family life, I have discovered a sense of freedom by reshaping my life to align with God's original design: The Garden of Eden.
In America, we often view freedom as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as stated in the Declaration of Independence. However, our pursuit of the American dream often feels chaotic. We have lost sight of God's intended way of life, focusing on our daily connection and walking with Him.
Just imagine Adam and Eve walking with their creator daily in the Garden of Eden. What did they talk about? What were their activities? What did they eat? How did God respond to them? Before sin entered the world, there was rest, relationship, and harmony with our creator. After the fall, things became complicated. But through Jesus Christ, God allows us to experience the purity of that original relationship with Him again.
Our freedom in relationship with God begins by obeying His commandments. The psalmist in Psalms 119 says, "I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts." (Psalms119:45 NIV). Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commands" (John 14:15 NIV).
God's commandments can be viewed as boundaries; every healthy relationship requires boundaries. They provide guidance and direction and are an excellent first step in a relationship with Him. When we get off track, God is faithful in bringing us back and correcting our relationship with Him.
What greater freedom can there be than knowing that you are walking in step with your heavenly Father, just as Adam and Eve did?
Living in freedom with God is restful. "My yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:30 NIV). When life becomes overwhelming, visualize yourself in the Garden of Eden and consider how God would interact with you. Entrust yourself to His care and enjoy the blessings of His relationship.
Can you imagine yourself there? Does it feel like freedom?
