Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Angela Vandagriff inspires us to share our testimony of Christ’s redemption and victory over sin.

“Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story─ those He redeemed from the hand of the foe…” (Psalms 107:2 NIV).

I was a generational church kid in the 1950s and 1960s, and that experience clouded my vision of what it meant to be a Christian. I thought that to be a Christian, I had to be good enough.

Because I could never be “good enough,” a sinister voice taunted me, telling me God didn’t love me. Eventually, that became my truth.

The first time I felt the Holy Spirit tug at my heart, I told God, “You don’t want me.” With tears streaming down my face, I left church that day empty and broken. Fifteen years passed before the Holy Spirit would whisper to my heart again.

Unable to carry the world's weight any longer, I found myself at the church altar. Broken by my sin and self-condemnation, I needed help! I cried out to Christ and acknowledged my sin and need for a Savior. He met me with open arms full of love and grace. I felt the weight of sin lift from my heart. Sadly, as time passed, my childhood idea of church again clouded my vision.

Then, God placed an imperfect woman in my life named Lisa. Her testimony impacted me dramatically. Her life reflected today's focus scripture. Lisa’s story of imperfection and God’s powerful redemption was used to clear my childhood misconceptions of salvation. I finally felt completely free to now mirror my Savior instead of imperfect people.

I also learned that there is power in testimony. Revelation 12:11 tells us that we have victory over the enemy through the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

Go forth, share your testimony of redemption, and live victoriously in the Word of God!
