Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Angela Vandagriff shares the freedom found through life in Christ.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1 KJV).
The Devil daily reminds us of our sins to torture us, leaving us burdened with shame, sadness, and depression. If not freed, we become his prisoners of war.
Riddled with shrapnel, my uncle's arm was a daily reminder of his sacrifice. He had been a P.O.W. in Korea. I would climb up in his lap and rub his scarred arms, and my little heart would break. Visual reminders bring up powerful emotions in our hearts.
The unspeakable things of war also haunted my fiancé. Dropped in Vietnam as a young boy, he described his first encounter with the enemy. Scared, he dug down into a foxhole, bullets flying over his head; he never rose to fire a shot. He had to learn to fight! His emotional reminders kept him a prisoner of shame.
Tired of running, he asked me if God could forgive him. I explained: In Jesus, you are not a servant to sin. You no longer live in the condemnation of sins committed. Accepting Christ as your Savior will free you from the prison of sin; you will become a servant to righteousness, not sin (Romans 6:18 KJV paraphrased).
I encountered my Savior in a new way as I spoke those words. I was saved but still a prisoner of shame.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” … Romans 8:1 KJV). Powerful and liberating words, not only for my fiancé but also for me. Being raised in a church, I took so much of the Word for granted. As I read these verses, the Holy Spirit pricked my heart. Freedom from the devil's daunting voice telling me I wasn't good enough became mine that day. I climbed onto my heavenly Father's lap and ran my fingers over His nail-scarred hands, and I knew He did it for me—I was truly free!
My sweet friend, what prevents you from living in true freedom today? Climb in the lap of Jesus, touch His scars, and know He did that for you. Live free in those words: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” Celebrate your freedom in Him!
