Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts
and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Sarah Goff.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what to pray for, but
the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans” (Romans 8:26 NIV).
The Apostle Paul explains in Romans that even when the believer does not have the strength to take another step or pray another prayer, the Spirit continues to intercede on our behalf. Have you ever felt the Holy Spirit's presence when your strength is depleted?
When my mother passed away, one of my colleagues sat with me to offer comfort. I will never forget the words she said during that challenging time. She said, “God doesn't close a door without opening a window.” Her words felt like a message from above, giving me hope.
Later, I learned how much these words would change my life. I was going to have the baby! God had closed a door but opened a window, bringing new life into my world.
Another time, I found out my best friend, whom I shared a special bond with, had passed away. I sat alone in my kitchen and wrote her a letter, wanting her to know how I would miss her and cherish her with all my heart. When I attended her funeral, I asked her brother to place the tear-filled letter with her. He, in turn, asked me to read it as a part of her service. Although it was deeply personal, I knew it was what God intended me to do. God knew the letter would be an encouragement even before I did.
The Lord has been with me through my grief. He has shown me repeatedly that He is always present. He is my source of strength when I am weak, my hope when I feel lost, and my Savior.
Have you ever experienced the Holy Spirit interceding for you during grief? How did God show that he was with you during those times?
