Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Angela Gray encourages us with her testimony of how God healed her broken heart.

Our scripture is from Psalms 147:3 (NIV): “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

“I’m so tired. I want to go home.”

After months of sickness and excruciating pain, I knew Mom was talking about her “heavenly home.” A few days later, Jesus welcomed Mom to her new home in heaven.

I was heartbroken. I was thankful she no longer suffered, but I mourned the loss of my dearest confidante and her unconditional love.

During that first year without her, grief was my constant companion, and I was locked in a state of depression and despair. But the Lord walked with me through those dark days and answered my prayer for healing in a dream.

In my dream, Mom and I were leaving a beautiful worship service. She took off without the walker she had depended on for the last year of her life. I stopped her and reminded her she would fall without it. She smiled at me and said, “That’s okay. I can walk now.” And she led the way out the door, walking without any assistance.

I was surprised when Mom hurried to get in on the driver’s side because she was legally blind and hadn’t driven a car for many years. When I reminded her, she smiled and said, “That’s okay. I can see now,” and began driving out of the parking lot.

We talked and laughed as Mom drove until she took the overpass exit. Instead of slowing down for the sharp climbing curve, she began accelerating. I screamed, “Mom, watch out!” as she veered towards the guardrail.

I will never forget the joy on her face as she laughed and said, “That’s okay. I can fly now!”

I woke up crying and laughing ─ the heavy burden of grief lightened. The dream was like a soothing balm to my troubled spirit, and I knew I would be “okay.”

Do you need healing from a broken heart? God kept His promise of healing for mine and will do the same for you.
