Freely Speaking Audio Devotions
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion is written by Karen Wardle.
Our verse for today is found in Romans 2:4 (ESV version) “Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?”
As women of faith, our lives reflect God’s character for the world to see. In moments of pain and injustice, our response can point others to His kindness or turn them away.
I walked through the fire of two abusive marriages. By God’s grace, when the time came to leave, I resolved to do so in a way that honored Him. It wasn’t easy. I chose not to retaliate or cling to what I felt I deserved. Instead, I left behind shared belongings and personal treasures—books, photographs, jewelry. My goal wasn’t to win an argument or prove a point. It was to be a witness to the love and mercy of Jesus, even to those who had hurt me.
Decades later, I learned that both of my ex-husbands regard me as the best Christian they’ve ever known. This isn’t a testament to my strength or goodness but to the transformative power of God working through a surrendered heart. I pray that the seeds of His kindness planted in their lives will one day lead them to repentance and a deeper walk with Christ.
Romans 2:4 reminds us that God’s kindness, patience, and forbearance draw us to Him. As His daughters, we are privileged to model this same kindness in a broken world. Even in our most challenging moments, when forgiveness feels impossible and justice seems out of reach, we can trust God to use our obedience for His glory.
Sisters, let us live in such a way that others see His kindness through us. Whether we’re facing conflict, betrayal, or the mundane challenges of daily life, may we always choose the higher road—the way of love, mercy, and grace. Who knows how many hearts might be drawn to Him because of our witness?
