Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Shayla Bullock and today’s scripture is found in Proverbs 6:6-11 (NIV ), “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, overseer, or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man."
Sometimes, I have difficulty discerning between what is urgent and what is important, between busyness and productivity. How about you? At times, do you feel like you are on life’s hamster wheel, without clarity about where to place your focus?
Often, activities and issues that garner our attention, causing us to swirl into busyness, are not necessarily essential. They might require our attention and time but may not drive us toward our God-designed destiny. They may not lead to greater family unity, strengthen our marriages, or further our relationship with Christ. So, how do we avoid getting bogged down in the busyness that ultimately deters us from what is greater?
Proverbs 6:6-11 encourages us to go to the ant, consider its ways, and be wise. The ant doesn’t work aimlessly. The ant is not lazy. However, the ant also is not just cloaked in busyness. It works with a purpose. What if this passage isn’t only a warning against laziness; what if it is also to provide us clarity on how we are supposed to work?
Let us take time this week to pray about how we can avoid getting bogged down in busyness! May God reveal to us how we may be like the ant and work with purpose.
