Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation. Today’s devotion was written by Debbie Hamilton.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV).
Thursday, while visiting Al (note: I get tears when I think our relationship has been reduced to "visiting"), I walked him down the hall to the big window. Mr. Roy was there, too, in his wheelchair. He is one of my favs, just sayin'. Mr. Roy looked up and said, "I like the both of you. You're good people."
Why do bad things happen to good people, why is this our path, Lord? These kinds of questions make their way into my head occasionally. That's when I must dig deep, really deep, into God's love. Even when I don't understand, He's in the details, just like the song says. So, I'm thankful for God's provision, for tons of people who genuinely care, for good kids, and for being able to love Al through his journey...our journey. I just want him to feel loved every day.
God has also taken our story and made it a source for me to share God's love for others traveling the Dementia path. It has especially given me a heart of understanding for Caregivers of people with Dementia diseases. Recently I was certified to be an Alzheimer's support group co-facilitator. I am working with a local hospice to get our boots on the ground and I'm so happy to do so. Even when it hurts, I must look for God in the details, always.
How can God turn what you're walking through into a calling?
