LOVING GOD WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH by Susan Hales
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation. Today’s devotion, Loving God with All My Strength, was written by Susan Hales.
Our scripture for today is from Mark Chapter 12, verse 30: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" Mark 12:30 NIV.
Welcome inside my head every January 2nd. “This is the year I’m going to lose weight! Eat less, exercise more, right? That’s all I have to do.” Instead, I feel like a failure by March.
However, I finally discovered the problem was my why. Instead of trying to lose weight to feel more attractive and confident, I realized that taking care of my body is an act of worship.
God created us, Jesus died for us, and the Holy Spirit lives inside us as believers in Jesus. Wellness as worship is a practice like Bible reading, prayer, fasting, growing our faith, and producing spiritual fruit. When we love God, we must take care of our bodies as His temple.
As Christians, God sets us apart to do His will, to serve Him, and to share the Gospel. One way to love God is to present our bodies as living sacrifices. Staying healthy and strong gives us the stamina to do this as long as possible.
What’s the best part? You don’t have to do it with your own strength. David wrote many psalms about trusting in God’s strength, not his own. In Psalms 28:7 (NIV), he wrote, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song, I praise him.”
Friends, let’s trust in God’s strength to help us create healthy habits or break unhealthy ones.
Please share a healthy habit you know you should start. Also, let us know if you need prayer to combat an unhealthy habit. Let’s pray together for the Lord to strengthen us on our health journey.
