Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Debbie Hamilton.

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20 NLT).

Over the past eight years, I’ve been on a journey with my husband, who has Alzheimer’s/Lewy Bodies Disease. This journey has taken us through many stages and levels of the disease, as well as various emotional changes and challenges. I gave him total care for seven years before making the tough decision to place him in a memory care facility. I have been honest and transparent on social media about our journey, but mainly, I’ve hoped God would take my path and use it to help others, caring for someone with dementia.

So often, when faced with hard things, it might seem easier just to exist and sink into an abyss, but God has plans. Psalm 139:16 says, “…all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” He planned to use the walk I had been on to help others. Sometimes, we want to limit God and make our path; then comes Ephesians 3:20 (NLT).

With the might of God dwelling in us, we can accomplish infinitely MORE than we might ask or think. Recently, I was invited to assist with a caregiver support group. I was so excited, but God had more for me to do. I was also asked to lead a life group at our church geared toward caregivers, and finally, he placed me in a group of ladies who support, pray for, and encourage each other in our endeavor to be the disciples Christ calls us to be. God has placed me in the positions I prayed for, and Ephesians 3:20 has come to fruition.

I still assist with my sweetie’s care and will be there with him, loving him into Jesus’ arms. I will move into these new circles, trusting that God is still writing my story and allowing me to use my heartache to help others.

Pray about how God could use your trials and experiences to help others.
