Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Sharee Gaiser shares about her journey of faith, miracles, and motherhood.

“I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.” Psalm 57:2 NLT

Twenty-first birthdays have never been favorites of mine. Soon before mine, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and learned I would have to inject myself with insulin daily for the rest of my life.

Fast forward to 1995, my second year of marriage. After leaving a teaching position following health complications, we discovered that my dream of one day being a mom was in jeopardy. Having a baby could put my life and that of a baby at risk.

Devastation was an understatement. The dream of having four children, which I had cherished my entire life, was shattered. I found myself questioning God, losing hope, and losing my way. I couldn't see God in this situation at all. Wasn't He the one who had planted this hope in my heart? Surely, He would make it a reality?

Yet, God was active and working behind the scenes on a miracle.

My husband and I attended a conference at our church in New Zealand, where we lived. The speaker called forward couples who desired children but had none. We dared to hope that God would hear our cries. The faithful man who prayed shared words that filled my heart with hope: “God has heard the cries of your heart, and He will have the final say.”

Despite my fear and the blame I held against God, something in my heart shifted. A new kind of hope began to take root, stronger and more resilient than ever before.

Our focus verse encouraged me during this time of learning to trust God. These words promise that God hears our cries, and I had many of them.

Three months later, I found out I was pregnant. Now, being pregnant and diabetic is not a walk in the park, and I am grateful to this day for the support provided by a specialist team to protect me and my children.

We welcomed our first child twenty-nine years ago, a moment of pure joy and triumph. Soon after, three more blessings followed. I praise God for them daily. He is a God who fulfills His purposes for us. If He has done it before, He will do it again, giving me such hope.
