Our verse for today is found in 2 Kings 20 verse 5 (New International Version) “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, this is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayers and seen your tears; I will heal you…”

I was diagnosed with a chronic illness when I was 13 years old. No cure and long suffering are the perfect way to describe Crohn’s Disease. As things progressed, I was told I would eventually need surgery to remove my colon and live life with a permanent ileostomy. I rejected that idea and avoided it for over 30 years, trying every other medical option available.

Through the years of pain and suffering, I pleaded with God to heal me and believed He would do so. In seeking and searching, the Lord gave me this verse in 2 Kings that quickly became the promise I held on to: “I have heard your prayers. I have seen your tears; I will heal you.” These words were my victory cry for the miraculous healing that did not require surgery.

My belief in this miracle was solid, but I was jaded by my “I am in control” thinking. I now understand that kept me from seeing God had another plan. Inevitably, on November 12, 2020, after decades of suffering, the irreversible damage to my digestive system had taken its toll. That day, God kept His promise and brought healing to me through the very surgery I had run from and feared for so many years.

I am forever grateful for God’s mercy and goodness. And although I regret the stubbornness leading to prolonged pain, I have realized that the miracle God brought isn’t the only beautiful part of this story. Those years were not wasted but used as a time to grow my faith in Him, preparing me for the outcome in His perfect timing.

I am sure that we serve a God who hears our prayers, sees our tears, and wants to bring healing to all areas of our lives. Let go of control and trust God with the miracle you need.
