One knows the holiday season is approaching when the music changes in stores and the shelves burst with Christmas paraphernalia! For some, this is a season of delight. For others, they cannot wait to see it done and dusted! In the hustle and bustle, we can quickly forget the true meaning of this season to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
One of my favorite Christmas hymns is “Come, Let Us Adore Him,” written and composed by John Francis Wade. This hymn often rouses people to worship. Yet the words of invitation to adore Jesus grab my attention.
The word, ‘adore,’ is not found in Scripture. However, this beautiful word means to deeply love and respect; to worship. Throughout Scripture, believers are called to love and worship God and His Son.
So, what does it mean to adore Jesus, especially as we approach this holiday season? The hymn, ‘Come, Let Us Adore Him,’ gives us some clues. In David DeMarco’s version of this song, the beginning of each stanza guides us to fix our adoration on both the person of Jesus and His character:
Let us keep our eyes on Jesus, for He is truly worthy of our deep and loving adoration. This is your invitation, dear friend. Come! Let us adore Him together.

- ‘Oh, come let us adore Him’ – we are invited to worship Jesus as Savior and Lord. (Titus 2:13)
- ‘We’ll praise His name forever’ – we declare that we will always lift high the name of Jesus, offering respect and gratitude for all He has done. (Psalm 100:4-5)
- ‘We’ll give Him all the glory – we bring our worshipful praise, honor, and thanksgiving. Jesus will be glorified above everything. (Revelation 14:7)
- ‘For He alone is worthy’ – Jesus is the only One deserving of our worship. A gift from God, He redeemed us from sin. He restored us to the Father, and He satisfies every longing in our hearts. (John 3:16)
Let us keep our eyes on Jesus, for He is truly worthy of our deep and loving adoration. This is your invitation, dear friend. Come! Let us adore Him together.

Just beautiful Sharee! O Come, Let us adore him. Christmas music is my fav and I love when it finally starts on TV and radio. Music is the only place commercialism doesn't invade and I love it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, Debbie. I love the old hymns, especially the lyrics. I pay attention to those.
I love this song and how you brought to light the scriptures to support the words in the song! It's wonderful how we can listen to music to be filled with joy, plus read his scripture to grow in wisdom and knowledge. Love, love, love this!
Thank you so much, Darla. Glad it blessed you!
Amen sister!
