Is it just me, or has Thanksgiving become more about food and football than being thankful? OHSOFREE wants to change that focus with the theme “thankful.” So many things come to mind, but I want to say I am thankful for my car.
What do I drive? Well, it’s not a Maserati or a Corvette. It’s not a Lincoln or a Cadilac. It is the most ridiculed car in Hollywood movies for some strange reason. I drive a Toyota Prius that is over 15 years old with 140K miles on it.
“Giving thanks always for ALL THINGS unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20 KJV).
Giving thanks and bringing prayer requests to our Heavenly Father keeps us from thinking only about ourselves and our needs. Thanksgiving goes along with worship and the Lord is honored in both. Our relationship with Him is strengthened when we thank Him.
Since the age of 16, I have considered cars a source of freedom. Riding down the street on a cool fall day with the windows down brings a sense of joy and renewal. So often I see people without cars hailing cabs or walking home from the market with a baby in one hand and grocery bags in the other. This makes me realize how blessed I am to have my little Prius, which, by the way, gets 43 miles per gallon of gas. Praise God!
Our attitude improves when we try to live with a thankful heart and give thanks for everything. Even when a tire blows up on the highway, we can be thankful (in ALL things) and learn to appreciate God’s provision for us.
What are you thankful for today in this month of Thanksgiving?
