There have been many sermons given on tithing. This is an important subject, and each pastor has tackled it at least once in their ministry and probably more. I know it’s sometimes difficult to listen to this topic too. If you’re like me, you would rather skip that day when tithing is the topic! There are other ways of giving. You can give of your time, your talent, a shoulder to lean on, or be the hands and feet of Jesus to someone.
Giving is not always about money. Giving your time and the gifts God has provided you can be a blessing. Our time is precious to us in this busy world. Most of us working outside the home give at least 40 hours a week, probably more than that. Many time management tools can help us to plan our time wisely.
Take the time to research your community. There are a lot of giving opportunities locally where you could volunteer. One opportunity that I have, and I also get to share this with my co-workers, is providing meals to the seniors in our community. We volunteer one day a week, every week. Two of us will go each time. It is a rewarding experience, and the local meal provider is always grateful to our team. We do become attached to the seniors we serve.
The motivation behind giving should be with an attitude of Christ! “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (Colossians 3:17 NKJV). In all things, we should honor God and do this for His glory. Christ came to earth and showed us many examples. Christ always ALWAYS gave thanks to the Father.
In your quiet time, ask God to provide an opportunity for you to give. Remember to give as Christ would. I love how the Passion Translation states Col 3:17, “Let every activity of your lives and every word that comes from your lips be drenched with the beauty of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. And bring your constant praise to God the Father because of what Christ has done for you!” (emphasis mine).

Thank you for your insight on giving. I know I feel that discomfort during sermons about giving! I think, am I giving enough? Or I worry if I give I will not have enough to pay my bills! But I must trust God will provide for me. Thank you for helping seniors by delivering meals. You are the hands and feet of Jesus!
Love that you shared about serving seniors!
Thanks for your insight and reminding me that giving back to God is a joy not just a duty. :)
