The word busyness is a good descriptor of how many of us live our lives. And although being active and involved in the things around us is good, too much busyness is a worldly concept and can distract us from the Lord’s blessings.
The pace of this world is fast and furious. Technology and innovations have accelerated everything to be at our disposal in record time. Social media platforms can give a false sense that happiness comes from having more or doing more. This culture of more is better can make us feel like we aren’t doing enough. Or even worse, that we are missing out on something for ourselves or our kids if we aren’t busy doing something.
I have fallen into this pattern of being too busy many times. Being a single mom to two active boys has made it near impossible not to be busy, but I learned there must be some healthy balance between busyness and reflection. I must avoid being consumed with the need or want to do everything. To succeed in this, I must anchor myself in prayer and God’s word. I need to check in with Him regularly and ensure that what I pursue is lining up to where God wants me to be. If I fill my life with things that aren’t purposeful, I am giving my precious time away, leaving no room or energy for the work God has for me. Living this way brings no real fulfillment and leaves me feeling empty.
In Romans, the apostle Paul writes, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2 NIV).
What are you busying yourself with and how does it align with God’s purposes? Check in with Him today and find a biblical balance to the busyness of life.

Andi, I appreciated your wirds today. Such a powerful reminder of "that false sense that happiness comes from having more or doing more." This has long been a bondage to me. My source of true happiness is Jesus!
I have felt that bandage my whole life. I am a pleaser to all but not always to what is best for me. I'm getting better at saying no.
Andi, such good words today! I remember when I first heard the phrase, FOMO, fear of missing out. Social media cultivates it to make more money. We want to keep up, to see if someone likes our post, or follow the latest influencer. It all keeps us busy with things that don't matter. For me, the only person worth following is Jesus, and His opinion of me is all that matters.
Thank you Susan!
Amen

I am often guilty of using my time with things that might seem good but are not beneficial for my walk with Jesus. I need to spend more time in the word. Thank you for words of wisdom and encouragement to do better.
I do the same thing. I think the enemy is very good at pulling us in other direction just slightly enough that it will distract us from our real focus on the Lord.
