An old Bill Gaither song says, “I will serve You because I love You; you have given life to me.”
That song tells the story of why we serve God by serving others. Because of His great love and sacrifice for us, we feel compelled to love others by serving them.
Our ten-year old granddaughter is ornery, but she has a servant’s heart. While on a cruise last summer, Charlotte noticed Poppy standing in the hot Caribbean sun, watching a belly flop contest. She told him he needed to be in the shade. When he didn’t respond, she took him by the hand and led him to a shady spot.
The Bible says, “But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you” (I Samuel 12:24 NIV).
Serving Jesus is more than just working in an area because of a need or vacant position. Serving effectively requires knowing where your gifting lies and serving in that area. For example, you may have worked in kid’s ministry at your church because you were needed. But if you don’t love working with kids, talk to your church’s leadership team. You may be more effective serving in another ministry to which God is leading you.
What is your serving gift? Are you using that gift effectively? Why or why not?

Thank you for Your wise insight on serving Marge. Working with children is not my gift! Though I realize that sometimes our gifts evolve. A long time ago before I retired, I volunteered to work on the computers at church. I hated it and had to quit because it was what I did all day at my job. But now that I am retired I love working on all of the technical aspects of OHSOFREE. God prepared me for this and to be a writer to share my story.
Thanks, Marge for your wise counsel. Our children's pastor spoke last Sunday. She said, "We're most like Jesus when we're serving " You added serving where we're called to be.
Your grand daughter was born with a beautiful gift!! The gift of kindness. So sweet! I love to do random acts of kindness! God will give many opportunities!
