What is freedom? Is it flying the Red, White, and Blue flag and having a cookout in the backyard to celebrate? What does freedom look like to you?
Freedom can mean many things to different people, for example, a prisoner being released from prison, being allowed to worship God openly, or living free because of others that have fought for freedom.
Freedom is much more than our circumstances! The apostle Paul wrote four letters from prison. Paul did not let his current circumstances, being imprisoned, stop him from writing encouraging letters to Christians.
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another" (Galatians 5:13 ESV). Before becoming a Christian, we were slaves to sin. We now have freedom by accepting Christ as our savior, the Messiah. Christ has set us free!
“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God” (1 Peter 2:16 ESV). As Christ followers, we live in freedom from sin. We need to be sharing with others about the freedom that is only found in Christ. We can honor God by serving others.
Freedom in Christ does not mean we will no longer sin or live perfect lives. However, we are no longer a slave to that sin because we have been forgiven. We are not perfect; Christ is! Throughout the New Testament are accounts of Jesus healing the sick and performing miracles, such as the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:24-34 and Luke 8:42:48. The bondage of sin can weigh us down. Long-term sickness can discourage us and steal our happiness. Only Jesus can break those chains that bind us. Jesus is our freedom!
As Christ followers, we live in freedom. If you have not opened your heart to Christ, I encourage you to seek out a Pastor or a Christian friend to help you. I pray for Christ’s love and freedom to reign in you!

So many nuggets of truth Lisa! I used to think freedom was doing whatever I pleased. But now I realize submitting my life to Jesus gives me the freedom I sought so desperately. He is always there to protect and provide for me and He treasures me as his beloved daughter.
I love the letters from Paul. He was a true Christ follower and it is so humbling the love he had for his savior. If I could only have a portion of his faith. It is so humbling to be reminded of the freedom that only comes through Christ Jesus. Everyday I must strive to be more devoted to the Lord of my life!!!💜💜💜
