My husband is a skilled musician. When we are at church, he’s often asked to play, sing, or lead worship for our congregation. He has a gift from the Lord that we can clearly see whenever he is at the piano.
I don’t have one of those.
This isn’t some backward attempt at humility. I don’t have a huge outward skill that follows me through life. I don’t have the gift of prophecy or preaching. How do we find our call when our gifts seem hidden?
In the Old Testament, the Lord gave the Israelites directions for building the Tabernacle. We know that Moses and Aaron played vital roles in this. They were receiving directions from the Lord and beginning their calling to become high priests.
There were two more men that we don’t talk about quite as much in the Exodus story. Bezalel and Oholiab. These two men had skills in craftsmanship. They worked in things like metals, stone, and wood. “And I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to create artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze…" (Exodus 31:3-4 NASB)
These men probably hadn’t been called on much before this. Maybe when you needed a new sword when they were in Egypt or a table made for a house, but they weren’t the guys you said, “Oh, hey, they are doing the Lord’s work daily.” They weren’t like Moses and Aaron.
The Bible tells us that the Lord filled these men with the Spirit of God. The Lord saw their skills and called them to use these skills to craft His dwelling place among the people.
If you’re like me and don’t have a strong outward gift, think about the things that God has called you to. Do you have the gift of hospitality? Are you an amazing HR manager? Are you raising children? Whatever that thing is, the Lord has placed that call on your life and filled you with the Spirit to serve Him in that call.

Thank you for sharing Sarah. I see you have so many gifts! I think one problem is sometimes we compare our gifts to other people's, and think, I can't do that. Your calling is where your joy meets the world's needs. If you don't know what your calling is think about what you enjoy doing and pray about how you can use it for the Lord's work.
I've felt that way before but I do think that Gid uses us right where we are. Every time we si compassion and help others we are doing the wirk of Christ. We have an opportunity everyday to be Christlike with everyone we encounter!! Now that's a gift in my heart!! Great post Sarah!!💜💜💜
