Do you ever feel bogged down by life, exhausted by minuscule responsibilities, and stuck in the tedium of tasks, errands, and chores? If it isn’t one thing, it’s another.
I, too, have found myself in this place. And often, when I’m tired and overwhelmed, I complain and argue about trivial matters with those I love the most. When I find myself in this rut, I’m often reminded of a short but powerful scripture verse in Philippians, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing” Philippians 2:14 (CEV).
Oh, what a reflection of Christ I would be if I refrained from grumbling and arguing. Indeed, Paul urged us to resist this tendency because it is essential that, as Christians, we reflect Christ. And, as I think of the life of Christ, I’ve never read a single verse about him murmuring or arguing. Even in his most tumultuous moments, he did not complain!
I’ve also noticed a great contagion that takes place in my home when I choose a path of praise and embracing instead of complaint and murmuring. It spills over to my husband! It spills over to my children! There is less grumbling and quarreling, and my home becomes a more excellent reflection of God, filled with peace and praise.
Yes, life is hard! And it can be tempting to complain and argue. I pray that this scripture will minister to your heart because we have the power to set the tone for our entire home!
What scriptures of praise can you lean upon when you are tempted to take on a posture of complaining and murmuring?
Sometimes when we are drained, we are not the best versions of ourselves. Therefore, what self-care strategies can you adopt that will aid you in overcoming the temptation to complain and argue?

Thank you for sharing this. Love that you mentioned self care! I think we often out ourselves last, especially in the case of our children. Jesus' self care consisted of making it a priority to get alone with the Father and laying down his needs. Making this a priority in my life before the chores and errands has been helpful in keeping a balance. When I skip this time of meditation in the Lord...not so good!
"Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones" Proverbs 16:24 (ESV). This is the scripture I am trying to put into practice. I hear it every time I start to complain or grumble. Thank you for your reminder today.
Since I live alone, I have no one to complain to about all the mundane tasks that I don't want to do, like yard work! Instead, I become discontented with my life--why don't I have a husband to help me do these things, Lord? But we just studied the book of Habakkuk in Bible Study Fellowship, and I recall Habakkuk complained to God, "why are you letting all these evil people get away with things" and "why aren't you answering my prayers?" So I believe God will listen to me complain about things too, and then I must trust Him that He knows what is best for me. No matter how insignificant our problems are, the Lord wants us to tell Him about them.
I think we all struggle with this! With so much riding on us we do get irritated and it cause us to act in ways we normally wouldn't! I felt this way when my kids were growing up. It is so helpful to have faith to get us through! Loved your truth!
